From the Seedbed: 12 Things I Wish My Pastor Had Told Me in Pre-Marital Counseling

An excellent post on marriage issues and some of the big lessons some wish they’d been told before they were married. Read the comment section as well- amazing stuff.

A disclaimer: Jeffro did my marriage counseling, and it was excellent. Seriously.

Meet Jeffrey and Jess Heine

This weekend, we have a few guests leading us at Hope. Jeffrey and Jess are native Kentuckyians who currently serve together at Redeemer Community Church in Birmingham, AL. Jeffrey has been one of the pastors there since 2008, and Jess has been a worship leader for Redeemer and for other Birmingham area churches. Their daughter June is the youngest female to ever win the Nobel, a Grammy, and a rib-eating contest in the same year (OK- not really, but she’s amazing). There are so many reasons we are thrilled to bring them in to worship with us this Sunday, and especially to help us launch towards our Ash Wednesday service and the beginning of Lent. Hope to see you there!

Power of the Cross

Power Of The Cross || Leign Nash

This Townend/Getty hymn is one of my favorite of the new hymns coming out of the church these daysI’m hoping this will be central to our singing at Hope this Lent.

“We are accustomed to finding a catch in every promise, but Jesus’ stories of extravagant grace include no catch, no loophole disqualifying us from God’s love…I imagined God as a distant thundering figure who prefers fear and respect to love. Jesus tells instead of a father publicly humiliating himself by rushing out to embrace a son who has squandered half the family fortune.”- Philip Yancey, What’s So Amazing About Grace?

"If you don’t need the Old Testament to explain salvation you don’t have the biblical gospel."

Reading Acts Missionally || Brian Russell

Brian Russell has been a huge influence on the way I read Scripture ever since my first introduction to the Old Testament class at Asbury. If you want to read Scripture well, and not just for your sake but for the sake of the world, Brian’s blog offers a lot of incredible insight. Check it out.

From the Seedbed: How Artists Do Theology

This is an absolutely wonderful article by Phillip Talon on art, creation, and the incredible goodness and graciousness of God. Check it out.

Good Grief: Ben Witherington on Death and Grieving

Dr. W lost his 32-year-old daughter last month. His response and reflection on this tragic event has be nothing short of inspiring. To this point, he has posted four posts on Christian faith in the midst of suffering, especially unexpected tragedy. They are all worth reading. The link above is the first post.
