This is my great-grandfather’s straight razor. My dad has had it for a while, and while my obsession with wet-shaving has grown, I’ve not had the, umm… gumption… to use a straight razor to shave.
However, with the discovery of this piece of family history, that is changing.
I found a honemiester (yes, they still exist) who has agreed to help me restore this bad boy to its former shaving glory. This pic is of the razor after I removed some of the rust and corrosion from it. The scales (handle) on the razor are broken, and it needs to be re-pinned, but the blade surface itself is in great condition (meaning I could shave with it now, though I’d be relying heavily on my recent tetanus shot to rescue me in doing so). So we’ll see.
Soon I’ll have to talk through my journey into wet-shaving on the site. If you don’t know what it is, ask your (or somebody’s) grandpa. It’s how he used to shave.
